Banco Santander inaugura en Santander el nuevo CPD del Grupo

El Presidente de Banco Santander, Emilio Botín, inauguró la pasada semana oficialmente el nuevo Centro de Proceso de Datos (CPD) localizado en el área industrial de Marina y Medio Cudeyo y que se suma a la red mundial de CPDs de última generación que el Grupo ha desarrollado en la última década, red que cuenta con los que actualmente prestan servicio desde Madrid (España), Londres (Reino Unido), Querétaro (México) y São Paulo (Brasil).

En la inauguración estuvieron presentes el Presidente de Cantabria, Ignacio Diego, así como la alcaldesa de Medio Cudeyo, Maria Antonia Cortabitarte, y el rector de la Universidad de Cantabria, Federico Gutiérrez-Solana.

Los CPDs son búnkers de alta seguridad construidos según los estándares más exigentes desde el punto de vista de la eficiencia energética y de la seguridad, con las mejores certificaciones internacionales de fiabilidad y sostenibilidad de edificios y preparados para mantenerse en funcionamiento de forma autónoma e ininterrumpida.

El nuevo CPD en Cantabria garantiza el crecimiento de actividad del grupo, al aportar más flexibilidad en la incorporación de nuevas entidades, y reduce al mínimo el riesgo operacional con los clientes, una estrategia que ya se ha mostrado efectiva en el caso de desastres naturales como el terremoto en Chile, en el que Banco Santander fue la única entidad bancaria que en circunstancias extremas siguió operando tras el seísmo.

La construcción de este CPD, que ha supuesto una inversión total de 240 millones de euros, se integra en la red de Comunicaciones de alta capacidad del Grupo (GSNET), con interconexión directa a los nodos de Madrid y Londres.

Tras la inauguración de este complejo tecnológico, Banco Santander tiene capacidad para procesar más de 10.000 transacciones por segundo, prestando sus servicios a los 100 millones de clientes del grupo, que realizan más de tres billones de transacciones de negocio anuales.

El Presidente, Emilio Botín, destacó la importancia estratégica del proyecto y lo puso como ejemplo de eficacia, innovación tecnológica y optimización de recursos. Botín aseguró que el modelo tecnológico del banco ayuda a multiplicar nuestra capacidad de hacer banca para clientes y subrayó que “el CPD confirma el compromiso del banco con la seguridad de los datos de nuestros clientes”. El modelo tecnológico de Banco Santander, un modelo de negocio único, ha contribuido de manera decisiva a la eficiencia del Grupo.

Banco Santander es la empresa española y el banco europeo que más invierte en I+D, según el ranking publicado por la Comisión Europea.

Emilio Botín subrayó, además, la generación de valor del CPD de Cantabria en el tejido industrial de la región, que se convierte gracias a la inauguración de este centro en un referente nacional e internacional de conocimiento e innovación tecnológica, y destacó las sinergias que generará a su alrededor. La construcción de este complejo ha generado ya más de 600 empleos y cuando esté en pleno rendimiento generará 250 empleos estables de alta especialización.
