Marca África y biodiversidad, enfoque de la 9ª edición de INVESTOUR

Casi 30 ministros de turismo africanos fueron convocados en INVESTOUR para debatir e intercambiar experiencias acerca del desarrollo de este sector en el continente. Este foro único de inversión y negocios para África está organizado conjuntamente por la Organización Mundial del Turismo (OMT), Casa África y FITUR.

Dos mesas redondas y el componente B2B integran la 9ª edición de INVESTOUR que tuvo lugar en el marco de FITUR, la Feria de Turismo en Madrid. La primera sesión, moderada por Thebe Ikalafeng, presidente de la Marca África, abordó estrategias de marca para posicionar al continente africano en el mercado turístico.

«La llegada de turistas internacionales a África creció alrededor de un 8% por segundo año consecutivo, alcanzando la cifra de 62 millones de visitas en 2017. Estos excelentes resultados muestran el potencial turístico en África, pero también muestran que hay que priorizar el sector en la agenda de desarrollo del continente», dijo Zurab Pololikashvili, secretario general de la OMT (UNWTO por sus siglas en inglés).

«INVESTOUR se ha convertido en una plataforma consolidada para compartir ideas y proyectos sobre el sector turístico en África. Nosotros empezamos como un pequeño foro y nueve años después, casi 30 ministros de turismo africanos se reúnen aquí para posicionar al continente, un tema que ocupará los debates en la edición de este año», explicó Luis Padrón, director general de Casa África.

El segundo panel evaluó el valor añadido de la biodiversidad africana como un destacado componente en el sector turístico del continente. La vida salvaje, las reservas y los tesoros geográficos hacen única a África en cuanto a su oferta turística. Según la investigación de la OMT, los viajes para observar animales representan el 80% del total anual de las llegadas turísticas a África. Sin embargo, es imprescindible continuar trabajando en las medidas de conservación y protección y captar el interés de accionistas de diversa índole como gobiernos, comunidades locales, empresas y medios de comunicación.

En esa mesa redonda se presentó el Programa OMT/Chimelong sobre la Conservación de la Vida Salvaje y el Turismo. La iniciativa, en la que colaboran la OMT y Chimelong Group, con sede en Guandong (China), tiene como objetivo contribuir con los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible y con la Agenda 2030 a través del turismo sostenible y sobre todo con la conservación de la vida salvaje. La iniciativa incluye fortalecimiento de capacidades, promoción y metodologías de intercambio de conocimiento y hace alusión a diversos accionistas como los gobiernos, la sociedad civil y los medios de comunicación.

Más tarde los accionistas del sector turístico se reunieron para discutir acerca de oportunidades de negocio en el continente. Se compartieron 62 proyectos inspiradores con el objetivo de crear asociaciones en torno al desarrollo turístico en las naciones africanas.
