El turismo mundial crece un 4% en 2012

Según los datos de la Organización Mundial de Turismo (OMT) el turismo mundial creció durante 2012 un 4%, sin embargo el organismo considera que este año el incremento sea menor. La OMT considera que hoy en día el turismo es un pilar básico para la economía, ya que no se puede hablar de un nuevo modelo de desarrollo ni de recuperación sin hacer alusión al sector turístico.

Durante un desayuno organizado por Nueva Economía Fórum, el secretario general de la OMT, Taleb Rifai, ha adelantado el cierre del año que se presentará la próxima semana a los medios, antes de la inauguración de la Feria Internacional del Turismo (Fitur).

Rifai ha remarcado el repunte experimentado en Asia, tras el terremoto de Japón en 2011, superando los crecimiento de Europa, junto al buen comportamiento de Sudamérica.

En el caso de Europa, el secretario general ha remarcado que ha sido el Centro y Este del Viejo Continente las zonas que mejor se han comportado, dado que el Sur de Europa se benefició en 2011 de los más de siete millones de turistas transferidos a consecuencia de la ‘Primavera Árabe’.

Por ello, ha subrayado que África remontó el pasado año, aunque aún está lejos de los niveles registrados antes de 2010, aunque es un continente a tener en cuenta en el futuro, mientras que Norteamérica se ha mantenido con pequeños crecimientos.

La OMT estima que el turismo mundial crecerá un 3,3% de media anual hasta 2030, con incrementos de entre 40 y 42 millones de viajeros al año hasta dicha fecha.
