La economía europea al borde de la recesión

Según la oficina comunitaria de estadística, Eurostat, el PIB de la eurozona y de la UE se contrajo un 0,3% en el cuarto trimestre de 2011. En términos interanuales, el PIB de la zona euro y de la UE registró, respectivamente, unos repuntes del 0,7% y del 0,9%. Bélgica, Italia y Holanda ya entraron en recesión, y Alemania cayó el 0,2%. La economía española se contrajo el 0,3% en el último trimestre del año.

El PIB de la zona euro cayó tres décimas en el último trimestre de 2011 respecto a los tres meses anteriores, cuando su crecimiento fue prácticamente nulo (0,1%), en tanto que el de los 27 se redujo seis décimas.

La actividad económica tanto de la eurozona como en el conjunto del bloque comunitario también se redujo notablemente de un año a otro debido a que en el área de la moneda común el PIB cayó seis décimas y en los Veintisiete cinco.

Italia, Bélgica y Holanda han sido los últimos países que han entrado en lo que se denomina recesión técnica en el cuarto trimestre al registrar dos trimestres consecutivos de caídas del PIB, mientras que Portugal, que ya se encuentra en esta situación, empeoraba más sus datos al contraerse su economía un 1,3% frente al 0,6% del tercer trimestre. En el caso de Irlanda, solamente se dispone del dato del tercer trimestre, en el que el PIB irlandés descendió un 1,9%. Italia, con duros ajustes en marcha, registró una caída del 0,7% en el cuarto trimestre tras un retroceso del 0,2% en los tres meses anteriores.

Aunque España se salva en 2011 de la recesión técnica, su PIB se contrajo un 0,3% en el cuarto trimestre tras un crecimiento nulo en el trimestre anterior., por lo que si cierra el primer trimestre con cifras negativas se unirá a los países en recesión.

Destaca el caso de Alemania cuyo PIB cayó un 0,2% en el último trimestre de 2011 después de crecer un 0,6% entre julio y septiembre. Francia, por contra, se mantiene en tasas positivas, aunque modestas. Situación extremadamente compleja es la de Grecia, que aunque Eurostat no facilita los datos del cuarto trimestre, está también en recesión y cerró el año con una importante caída del 7% del PIB.
