El puerto de Santander cierra 2011 con un incremento del tráfico de mercancias del 2,3%

Durante el pasado ejercicio, el Puerto de Santander superó la cifra de de cinco millones de toneladas de mercancía. Exactamente, alcanzó un tráfico total de 5.127.133 toneladas, incluidos avituallamiento y pesca, lo que supuso un incremento del 2,3 % con respecto al año 2010.

El incremento ha venido debido sobre todo a la subida que se experimentó en el tráfico de automóviles nuevos, con un aumento del 11,3 %, llegando a las 315.000 unidades, así como por los graneles sólidos, que suponen el 60% del tráfico total en el Puerto de Santander, y durante 2011 crecieron algo más del 6 %. Dentro de los graneles sólidos cabe destacar al carbón, que experimentó una variación positiva del 44 %, superando la barrera de las 400.000 toneladas, al azúcar que alcanzó el 57% de crecimiento y al carbonato sódico, que llegó a las 386.000 con un porcentaje de aumento del 21%. Serían también reseñables los comportamientos al alza del sulfato sódico, casi un 15%, la sepiolita, más de un 10, los cereales, un 10,9%, y los abonos con más de un 7%.

Por lo que se refiere a la mercancía general (un tercio del total del tráfico del puerto de Santander), destaca el ascenso del tráfico de vehículos y sus piezas, 428.000 toneladas, el alambrón y los productos siderúrgicos que estuvieron por encima del 20% de incremento en sus tráficos, rozando las 300.000 toneladas, y las ligeras subidas del papel, la madera y la maquinaria, con cifras que rondan el 2% de aumento.

La llegada de nuevas marcas como Ford y Volvo al puerto y el gran crecimiento de otras como Renault o Volkswagen, ha tenido una fuerte repercusión en el incremento del tráfico de vehículos.

La cifra del tráfico de pasajeros se mantiene estable, en los mismos niveles de pasados ejercicios, con 211.000 usuarios, al igual que el tráfico ro-ro, muy ligado al anterior, puesto que gran parte de él se realiza en las líneas de ferry con Inglaterra, que genera un tráfico de 1,2 millones de toneladas.

Por lo que se refiere al tráfico de cruceros, continúa con las mismas cifras que años anteriores, registrando un leve incremento del número de cruceristas, que superó la cifra de los 7.500.

Por meses, el mejor del año fue marzo, con un tráfico de más de 590.000 toneladas, y el número total de barcos que arribaron a los muelles del Puerto de Santander fue de 1.400.
