La Terminal Marítima de Zaragoza y el Puerto de Gijón se plantean su conexión a través de Burgos

Durante el mes de junio, se han celebrado diversos encuentros entre la autoridad Portuaria de Gijón, Terminal de Contenedores de Gijón (TCG) y la Terminal Marítima de Zaragoza (tmZ), con objeto de sentar las bases para conectar el Atlántico con el Mediterráneo integrando un corredor ferroviario a través de Burgos, Vitoria y Zaragoza. Estas reuniones han servido para estudiar los tráficos, conexiones y posibles colaboraciones que se pueden alcanzar entre las partes.

El Puerto de Gijón, que cuenta con una gran tradición ferroviaria, está trabajando sobre la diversificación de tráficos, manteniendo su perfil tradicional de puerto industrial. La autopista del mar, la primera atlántica entre España y Francia como conexión para mercancía rodada que comunica Gijón con Nantes-Saint-Nazaire, ha superado en 10 meses todas las expectativas y ha embarcado en 9 meses 7.162 trailers y 1.293 plataformas. Su clara apuesta por el negocio del contenedor, que en 2010 alcanzó la cifra de 35.570 TEUs, con un crecimiento cercano al 30%, lo ha convertido en un punto estratégico a tener en cuenta para la integración en este corredor ferroviario.

La Terminal de Contenedores de Gijón, pese a la crisis, está registrando en los últimos años crecimientos importantes y viene realizando, con la Autoridad Portuaria , un esfuerzo para ampliar el interland hacia comunidades vecinas, facilitando la importación y exportación contenerizada.

Por su parte Terminal Marítima de Zaragoza ( tmZ) ha ampliado recientemente sus instalaciones ferroviarias de manera que duplica la capacidad de recepción de trenes, ganando en agilidad en los procesos de carga y descarga y en las maniobras, con el consiguiente ahorro de tiempo y costes. La infraestructura está ya preparada para recibir trenes de 750 metros de longitud, (los convoyes más largos que circulan por Europa) cuando el Ministerio de Fomento habilite apartaderos de estas características a lo largo de las líneas de interés general.

La tmZ cuenta con 5.000 metros de vía que hacen posible la conexión directa de la terminal a la red general de tráfico de mercancías que confluyen en Zaragoza, dando servicio a todos los puertos de España.

Los trabajos de ampliación de la Terminal, que es ya la segunda en el ranking nacional de terminales de interior de contenedores, se suman a los que ya se realizaron en 2009 para reforzar las vías de carga. Todo esto confirma la pujanza de la terminal y el crecimiento constante de sus movimientos. De hecho, los TEUs movidos por tren, pasaron de los 6.553 en 2008 a 39.400 en 2010, multiplicando por seis su actividad.
